Student Assemblies
By now you’ve all seen the facebook event, but it’s understandable if you still haven’t got a clue what a Student Assembly is or why it’s a good idea to attend one. Let me break it down for you:
- University is as good as you make it. And believe it or not, good as you might think it is, you can make it even better. Of course you can simply fill out the course evaluation (and you should), but it’s a lot more effective to go for a more hands-on approach and engage in a dialogue with your peers, teachers and other interested parties (Universiteitsraad, Faculteitsraad, etc. etc.).
- The first Student Assembly has pizza.
- You get a chance to talk to teachers about their courses and university in general. Opening up a discussion can improve the teacher’s abilities to effectively teach a course. Your input helps them and it’s actually appreciated.
- You get to see your fellow students and do more than just rant about your courses with the person sitting next to you during a lecture. Now you can actually effectively rant with others.
- The Universiteitsraad and Faculteitsraad will have representatives present during the first Student Assembly. You’ll get to know what they do and what they can do for you (and the sooner you’ll know, the better).
