There once was a secluded island, far, far away from here. It was not unlike ours, yet different in many ways. In this strange country, the people spent their youths studying and their adult lives jobbing. After retirement, they would visit the bingo and drink tea with their families, like the good citizens they were. They watched their numbers grow steadily as their peaceful nation became more and more prosperous. Over time, items of luxury became common goods and everyone expected a high standard of life. They wanted the best they could get; cars, jobs, partners, houses, dogs, children. This resulted in the youngsters working extra hard on their careers. They would take up double studies and jobs, in order to get experience and so better prospects. However, the constant pressure they felt to out-perform their peers started taking its victims. Some would cave in as soon as they would graduate university, others would make it until after their first time being fired. Some would make it all the way to retirement, too, but most would get overworked and have a mental breakdown in their early thirties. Prescription drug sale went through the roof and suicide rates followed closely. The people became desperate; they felt stuck in a paradox where living cost a part of their lives.

Darkness washed over these dudes – darker than a black steer’s tookus on a moonless prairie night. There was no bottom.

Or was there? Way out west there was this fella… fella I wanna tell ya about. Fella by the name of Jeff Lebowski. This Dude drove out to preach. He spoke of bowling, white Russians, Js and the occasional acid flashback. He told the people to take it easy, man. And so they did. To excel became to relax, to stress became to abide. And after they chose Dudeism as their new religion, they lived happily ever after.
