Monthly Recap: February ’16

Ah, February. The shortest month of the year, but by no means the dullest one.
The month started off with the SkiCie’s ski trip with some of Albion’s snow enthusiasts zooming up and down the mountains in France. Despite one major injury, it was a great success (judging by all the smiles in the Facebook pictures)!
It was also the month of some serious academic business: the second Student Assembly took place on February 9, during which we discussed the problems with context courses, the verdiepingspakketten and everyone’s favourite course Kracht van Literatuur. After some heated discussion we all had a chance to cool down with a nice drink at our beloved Mick O’Connells.
It was also in this week that we got to see the acting talents that Albion has to offer in the SUDS One Act Festival! We were all majorly impressed by the plays that were put on. I particularly had a laugh with (or at, who knows) a certain former board member skipping around the stage with some pink adornments on his head.
The week after, the AcCie took us ice-skating! It took a while before the two board members present (Nick and Niki) dared to let go of the safety of the railing (resulting in one bruised knee for Niki and a bruise ‘on a spot I’d rather not reveal in public’ for Nick), while the rest slid around the rink effortlessly. However, all in all, everyone got on well in the end and we had a blast!
Then it was time for our extra ALV on Wednesday, and thanks to all of you we can start making some changes to our statutes and is the KampSub now officially the KampCie!
Afterwards, there was the BarbapapA5 party, which a grand total of 5 Albion members attended (but I can understand, we should save our energy for Party Month March!).
On Friday, the AlumCie hosted the Alumni event at De Schuur. Some of the English department’s graduates (who were also Albion members; in one case, even a former Albion chair!) came to talk to us about their life after graduation (there is hope; none of them are currently living in a box under a bridge).
The last week of the month we ate massive amounts of popcorn at the Film Night (and of course had a good laugh at Kevin Costner, as you do) when we watched Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Ah, Alan Rickman in all his glory (I’m still sad).
Then on Tuesday, the adventurers that will be exploring Dublin in April got together to hear some more information about the trip ahead (and of course to order one of those always amazing ReisCie sweaters!). We are all looking forward to it immensely!
We closed off February with a bang: the Symposium about job perspectives and the work field was a major hit! It was great to see such a big turnout and I get the feeling we will need to book a bigger room for the next one.
Now we go into March: and as you know, it is the Party Month, and we hope to see all of your lovely faces at all of them!12779251_506504059510256_502969164929784208_o
